This may not be the first “dad blog” you’ve ever read. It may not be the last one you’ll ever read. And I won’t be arrogant enough to believe it’s the best one out there.
My goal for this dad blog is simply to be entertaining, educational and interesting enough to stay in your reading rotation.
My name is Amaar, a Seattle native who recently became a father for the first time. And the second time. At the same time.
My fiancee Taylisha and I are parents to twin boys born in June 2020.
When I’m not making babies, I work as an editor and writer in the media industry.
In 2019, I published a children’s book called “She Can Play Too.” Buy your copy RIGHT HERE. The goal with that project is to use sports to teach kids about equality, respecting each other’s differences, handling peer pressure and doing the right thing.
I’m working on another book (for adults) based on my own path to fatherhood, and I’m launching a podcast called “Father Figgaz” about the Black fatherhood experience.
So why am I doing all of this?
I’m not a celebrity dad. I’m not the best dad in the world. I’m not the only dad of twins out there. My story isn’t unprecedented, but it is one I want to tell.
I’ve launched this blog to go with the podcast and book because fatherhood is something I’ve wanted my entire adult life. I’ve always known being a Dad will be something I love.
I hope you will enjoy reading as much as I will enjoy writing about this next chapter.
